2020 Reviews :Achievements of the Jigawa State Ministry of Justice.

The Jigawa State Ministry of Justice under the Honourable Attorney-General’s able stewardship, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, have witnessed tremendous success during the year 2020. Part of the achievement were the improvements of its Administrative functions through capacity building of staffs , the use of digital technology, tracking cases, and accomplishing various projects and programmes in the Ministry.
Some of the Achievements includes :
The Ministry in Collaboration with Partners West Africa (PWAN) has held a capacity building workshop for all the Justice Sector actors in the state on the Innovations of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL). Those trained were, all High Court Judges, Magistrates, Lawyers from the Ministry of Justice, Police Prosecutors, Prison Officials and Court Registrars. The event took place at Tahir Guest Place Dutse. The Ministry also sponsored a retreat on the Amendment of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL).
The Ministry has received fifty (50) units of laptop Computers donated by the Nigeria Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). The laptops were distributed to all lawyers and principal officers in the ministry.
Trained all its lawyers and staffs on computer appreciation and desktop publishing. Another virtual training was organized by the Ministry with reputable Law Scholars from Malaysia and Nigeria. The lawyers were trained on E-Legal practice to conform to international standards and meet up with the global trend of Digital Transformation. The Virtual-training themed “The Tools, the Apps and the Software”, was held via the Google Meet, four Resource Persons from different Countries presented their Lectures on diverse topics. Prof. Victor W. Mbarika from USA; Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa from Kaduna State University; Prof. Ani Munirah Mohamad from School of Law Universiti Utara, Malaysia and Ibrahim Sule, a seasoned lawyer/E-expert from Nigerian Law School, Kano Campus.
Sponsored some of its staff to attend a workshop on Arbitration and Reconciliation organized by the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC)which took place at the Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission Training Institute in Kano State.
Digital transformation in its administrative Functions. It pioneered technological masterpiece through a Case box app where all lawyers in the Ministry would keep track on the progress of cases prosecuted at various courts. A Case Tracking software for Sexual offences at the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) Dutse was also launched. These made it possible to track cases of Sexual Assault, looking at the increasing number of sexual offences in the state.
Another achievement is the establishment and launching of the Ministry’s website, which was funded by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD). The website found at www.moj.jg.gov.ng contains all the information about the Ministry, including Jigawa State laws, judgments and reports, staff profile, press releases, etc.
The Ministry with support from Partners West Africa (PWAN) has also introduced a weekly Hausa Radio program Called “SHARI’A YANCIN KAI”. it’s a public enlightenment program meant to inform and educate the public on the duties of the different Justice actors. It will also help to inform the public on access to Justice and the procedure of dispensing Justice.
During the year ending 2020, the ministry has boosted its E-library functions by creating more internet connections in their offices, for easy and faster legal research.
In the area of litigations, the Ministry has prosecuted various cases from the State High Court to the Court of Appeal. The breakdown is as follows:

Two convictions by the High Court of Justice Jigawa State were set aside, and 12 convictions were affirmed by the Appellate Court.

Both decisions of the High Court of Jigawa State were set aside by the Appellate Court. The ministry of justice succeeded in one appeal and lost the other.
