The Ministry

The Jigawa State Ministry of Justice is one of the key Ministries in the State with the primary responsibility of ensuring compliance with the rule of law. The Ministry is also a multi-point bridge and an intermediary between the three arms of Government and is the first point of call in Justice Administration in the State.

Our Vision: Justice for all citizens consistent with the ideals of democracy and the rule of law.

Our Mission: To improve the delivery of Justice, through robustness and professionalism while maintaining synergy with all tiers of government.

Functions

The core function of the Ministry is derived from section 211 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) which primarily ensures compliance with the rule of law in the administration of justice. Key functions of the Ministry include:

  • Make decisions and determinations to prosecute or not, criminal acts conducted across the state;
  • Undertake prosecution of crimes in courts;
  • Support MDAs through provision of legal advisory services on matters relating to legal instruments, bills, laws, contracts, acts of officers etc;
  • Provides legal representational services for MDAs in respect of civil matters and representation of Government’s interest in crucial meetings likely to affect government policy.
  • Providing additional Alternative Dispute Resolution services to the public and government to foster peace and harmony in the state.
  • Drafting and vetting of executive bills and contracts.
